The Rinquelle

Straight below the third stage of the Seerenbach the waters of the Ringquelle overflow from the mountain and falls over a 45 m high rock wall directly into the Seerenbach. The Rinquelle is the overflow of a widespreaded underground karst cave system. Average 60% of the flow of this cave system occur in the Rinquelle to the ground level, the rest flows in the mountain 2.5km to the west, only to flow 20 to 30 m below the water table as subterranean spring into the Lake Walensee. During the snowmelt and after heavy rainfalls the Ringquelle will be active. In the process of drainage peak 30 m3 / s were already measured. During periods of low rainfall and in winter the Ringquelle dried up, but reacts very quickly to changes in the water supply. In one of that dry period cave divers succeedet to reach 850 meters into the cave.
